In The Yellow Wallpaper, why is the main character spending time at the colonial mansion?

In the Victorian era, it was not uncommon for a new mother to be given to hysterics after the birth of her child. The cure to this was isolation from the rest of society, and being prevented from performing physical labor and it was aptly named the “Rest Cure”. In the book, the main character suffered from postpartum depression. She was married to a physician who saw it fit to isolate her in a nursery in an old mansion he rented. The setting and environment were somewhat fascinating to the main character. She enjoyed the way the place looked, even hoping for something out of the ordinary. However, with time, boredom seeped in, but her husband would not relent. This eventually drove her to insanity. The book displays the trials surrounding women and the different issues they faced in the Victorian era.
