Which term would Freud use when referring to the interdependence between mother and child?

A

The ability of a child to survive is considered entirely dependent on the mother’s care. She is the primary caregiver hence the quality of the connection between mother and child is essential for the child’s perception of the environment. This is what Freud would call a symbiotic relationship. It is a connection defined by an omnipotent aspect of the absolute enmeshing of the two who form a unity of some sort.
